New to fishing need help.?

I just recently got into fishing and I go to the beach a lot. I prefer not to surf fish because of all the people and I feel as though I might have a better chance in the Inter coastal or off the pier. I am in North Carolina and I have been fishing maybe a month and have not caught any salt water fish. I want to catch a Red Drum and my favorite would be a bass but I would be happy to catch anything. I need advice on everything to do with Salt water fishing and fishing in the Inter coastal.
